Godwin's Law [link] is a popular law strongly enforced in many online forums. In the official listing, the law states as thus:
"As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one."
In practice today, the concept is that, in any online debate that gets somewhat heated, the chances that someone calls someone a Nazi (Or some resemblance thereof) increases. When this happens, all debate is considered over and the person who invoked the evil German regime is considered to have lost said debate.
In this presidential race of 2008, I call that the law be expanded: "As any debate grows longer, the probability of someone being called a racist approaches 100%. When this happens, all debate stops and the party accusing racism automatically loses."
Of course, that means that there are huge sectors of the Left, and some of the Right, should automatically be excused from all political debate . . . but then again, that might not be a bad thing.
(NOTE: For this version of Godwin's Law to be invoked, someone must be called a racist directly. Identifying actions and words instead gets a pass.)
What say you?

This is about the 2008 Presidential Election, and the overtendency for things to get racially heated because of Barack Obama's good chances in it. You've probably heard of the race card. There's people who are playing the race _deck_, and I can give examples on both sides. Personally, most of us saw this coming a mile away.
That's the reason why I'm suggesting amending Godwin's Law to include terms that are passed around more prevalently than "Nazi," and sound just as offensive as any racial slur.
In fact, some people are using 'racist' as such a slur. At least it sounds like it to me.
