Artist's Comments

Just in time for me to get that scanner that works with Vista. I'm finally able to scan this little beauty. It's a preview of my cover art for Lost Boy Found. Expect at least a part of it to show on the front cover.

I revised this a bit with some of the suggestions below in mind, and made this into a print for people to buy.

Well, David, you certainly are getting better with backgrounds.

Stuff I would change though are Peter's eyes (he looks cross-eyed), and making the mirror look more like a mirror... making the things in the reflection lighter and more translucent, adding the hilights on the mirror from the light source... that sort of thing.

Also, I admire the fact that you tried to put some detail into the texture of the grass, trees and bushes, but it doesn't look quite right. The bushes look like afros or clumps of wire, the grass looks like fish scales. I'm not the person you should ask on how to draw flora, but you should see if you can go over that and fix it.

Otherwise, it's ice to see you using the perspective you have going on there.

I've moved the eyes on Peter so he won't look cross-eyed, and improved the shade of the bushes and grass. That should improve the graphic some.

However, there is a reason why I made the reflection in the mirror more detailed and vivid, "more real" in a sense, and you'll understand as you read the book's story and find out what Adam's thinking, especially in the earlier parts.

And then there's the flippant excuse: Making the reflection look like a reflection would be a bit too drastic a change in such a short time.

The revised pic will become a Print, if anyone's interested.

Is this just straight pencil work? :/ Tsk tsk, if this is going to be book cover art it should look clean and crisp. I would highly suggest at minimum inking this. The pencils as is makes the piece look unfinished and unpolished. I know that if I saw this image on the cover of a book I wouldn't immediately think professionalism.

Here are a couple book covers done by your fellow Deviants. Always helps to see what your competition is cooking up to see how you can improve your own work.

Fortunately, I still have some time for me to work with on the cover, and will continue improving on it until the May timeline. (Good thing LuLu has automatic updating) This will involve finding out which parts of that huge picture I have elsewhere inked up. (Although everyone does say that my pencils are my strongest suit in my artwork.)

My offer for anyone to be the cover artist still stands.

Two of these are pretty lousy covers IMO. There's a lot of pro illustators and comic artists on dA.

Oh, man... picky, picky. Am adding this to the preview of the story in a journal specified for the story at =disneydeviants ~

Appreciate it. The actual cover of the book is a color version of this picture as well.
